DEMOCRACTIC CANDIDATES THAT CAN WIN IN RED STATES
Why it is important to gain control of the Senate: the Senate confirms appointments to high-level Administration positions and to the Judiciary. If we want to protect the Courts— including the Supreme Court— from right-wing appointees that can derail civil rights and liberties for generations, we must flip the Senate. To do that we want to hold current Democratic Senate seats and flip at least two Republican-held seats.
We are reaching out to State Democratic parties and umbrella organizations such as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) to see where and how we can have the most impact. As the primaries progress we will reach out to the individual campaigns of Democratic primary winners.
DEMOCRACTIC SENATORS RUNNING IN RED STATES
ELECTIONS WE ARE WATCHING
Democratic Senators to defend: There are eight Democratic Senators from Republican-leaning states; they could face competitive elections. In most cases the Republicans have been unable to put forward strong candidates for these seats. One or more of these races may need the kind of help we can bring.
A year ago it looked likely that Democratic seats would be lost in 2018, but a year of Trump has changed all that. The current Senate makeup has 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats, so a net gain of only 2 seats by Democrats will put us in control of the Senate.
Republican Seats To Flip: Of the the four Senate seats held by Republicans, Arizona and Nevada are the most likely to be flipped. Both states have a popular female Democratic opponent who currently represents the state in the House of Representatives. Being adjacent to these states makes Democratic activists in California well positioned to help.
